About Us

Castlemaine Golf Club is a welcoming, member-driven club set among the rolling landscapes of Muckleford in the Victorian Goldfields.

The Club provides a relaxed country golfing experience with a strong focus on community, participation and course quality.

Our 18-hole, fully watered course offers an enjoyable challenge for players of all levels, supported by a modern clubhouse and an active competition and social calendar. Members and visitors alike value the friendly atmosphere, well-presented playing surfaces and the sense of connection that comes from being part of a regional club.

Castlemaine Golf Club continues to invest in its facilities, course development and member experience, ensuring a vibrant future for the Club and its community.

History

Founded in 1899, Castlemaine Golf Club began with eight holes carved through the goldfields landscape, winding between old mining sites. Members played with hickory-shafted clubs and compressed indiarubber balls, laying the foundations for more than a century of golf in Castlemaine.

From those modest beginnings, the Club has grown into today’s 18-hole, fully watered course, featuring manicured grass greens and modern facilities. While equipment has evolved from timber shafts to carbon titanium clubs, the spirit of the game remains unchanged.

A Century of Golf on the Goldfields

In 1999, the Club celebrated its centenary with the publication of a commemorative booklet titled A Century of Golf on the Goldfields, compiled by Jean Wyldbore. Copies are available in the clubhouse for members who wish to explore the Club’s history in greater detail.
